The objectives of the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting include:

• Providing an opportunity for students to gain technical skills and conceptual knowledge in financial accounting, management accounting, finance, auditing and assurance, commercial and corporations law, taxation, information systems, economics and quantitative methods essential for the professional accountant in today's global environment.

• Developing generic skills commonly applied in practice and valued by employers and professional bodies including analytic, appreciative, personal and interpersonal skills.

• Providing an opportunity for students with a Bachelor degree in other disciplines to gain entry to the accounting profession.

• Providing local students with a shorter (8 unit) route to membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.


Course Structure Sample


The course consists of 8 units of study to be undertaken by one of two options:
Option One

For membership of CPA Australia, students need to complete the following units of study:

    * Professional auditing
    * Financial and corporate accounting
    * Business finance
    * Issues in contemporary accounting
    * Accounting systems and processes
    * Business economics
    * Business and company law


Option Two


For membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, students need to complete the following units of study:


Credit Points


    * Managerial Accounting
    * Professional Auditing
    * Financial And Corporate Accounting
    * Business Finance
    * Issues In Contemporary Accounting
    * Accounting Systems And Processes
    * Australian Income Tax Law And Practice
    * Business And Company Law


On completion of four approved units of study, students who choose to exit this course will be eligible to receive the Graduate Certificate in Business.

Entry Requirements

 

To qualify for admission to this course an applicant must have a relevant degree or graduate diploma and be employed or intend to be employed in a position associated with accounting.

Candidates with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Accounting will be considered if they have 3 years working experience in the accounting field.


English language requirements:

    * IELTS Test (Academic): Overall Score of minimum 6.0, no band less then 6;
    * TOEFL ibt (Internet): Overall Score of minimum 92, with 18 Listening, 17 Reading, 22 Writing, 22 Speaking.;
