HSP Program



High School

 

The High School Preparation Program (HSPP) is an accredited 15 to 45 weeks course designed to prepare students for the Higher School Certificate (HSC) in New South Wales.

The course introduces students to the vocabulary and terminology they will need in order to undertake the HSC with confidence. Teaching will combine textbook-based material and practical sessions involving discussion groups, individual and team activities and assignments.
 

HSPP integrates language studies, school subject content, computing skills and cultural information to prepare students to join the NSW high school system from year 11 onwards.

 

Entry Requirements:
 

    * Successful completion of Year 10 or equivalent in their home country;
    * A minimum IELTS level of 4.0 is required for students over 16 or an Australian college test;
    * A guardian and accommodation inspection is required for all under 18 students;

 

HSPP Course Assessment:

    * HSPP course assessments are similar to assessments in high school classes;
    * Students’ progress is regularly assessed throughout the course with a combination of essays, reports, oral tasks, research assignments, group work and tests;
    * Students are tested in listening, reading, writing and speaking skills and are to maintain a writing portfolio that is checked by the teachers each week;
    * Students sit a formal cross-school test in reading, comprehension, writing, Australian Studies, English spelling and vocabulary, and Australian Geography each month;
    * Students receive a substantial progress report each month.

An Overview of HSPP Course Units:

    * English for Literature, Mathematics, Information Technology, Science and the Arts;
    * English Communication;
    * Report Writing and presentation skills;
    * Comparison of different genres – book reviews, short stories, poetry;
    * Comprehensive listening skills;
    * Independent learning skills.
 

Learning Outcomes:


    * Obtain study necessary to succeed in NSW High Schools, including skills in research, organization, time management and test preparation;
    * Become familiar with the English language within an Australian context, allowing them to communicate appropriately and effectively;
    * Be able to use, reflect on and enjoy the English language in a variety of text types through listening, reading, writing and speaking;
    * Have an understanding of the language of Mathematics and other subjects in order to interpret and successfully answer the questions.
