Careers
Graduates will be able to seek employment in a wide range of fields that require biotechnology skills such as medical research, plant and agricultural biotechnology, food biotechnology, scientific research, bioinformatics, management and marketing of the biotechnology industry. Possible places of employment are public and private biotechnology companies, hospitals and medical research institutes, agricultural research organizations, patents offices, university research laboratories, bioinformatics organizations and the bioprocessing industry.
These courses are designed to provide students with skills, knowledge and expertise in the multidisciplinary field of biotechnology and related areas. The specific aims of the courses are to provide students with a sound knowledge of the scientific principles underlying the basis of the biotechnology industry, hands-on practical skills in biotechnology and problem solving skills. Intellectual property, commercialization and ethical issues are also included as part of the courses. Students enrolled in the
Masters program have a choice of specializing in the Bioinformatics stream, undertaking a minor project or selecting from a range of electives from a number of disciplines relevant to the biotechnology industry.

ADDITIONAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
An undergraduate degree in an approved area of study such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical sciences, veterinary science, MBBS and other related fields, with at least one unit each of biochemistry and microbiology containing a laboratory component. Proficiency in basic biology, microbiological and chemical laboratory techniques will be expected. Academic performance in the undergraduate degree will be required to be at an average of credit level or higher.
